Caution: Allergic Reaction To Bloodworms

Post by Crabby Abby » Wed Sep 12, 2007 12:35 pm

I vaguely remember a post recently on bloodworms and how they are an irritant so I've been careful but I had a rotten experience with them yesterday.I have a package of the frozen ones. I ripped the top off too close to the zipper so now there is little of the plastic left to grip to pull the bag open again. I struggled yesterday, broke pieces off through the package and scooped them out with a spoon. I then zipped the drippy package back up and wiped it down with a paper towel as I always do. It took a couple of times to zip and I got the blood gunk on my hands. I washed with soap and that was that but all last night my ring finger was itching me under my wedding band. This morning I was going nuts. I was itching like mad, my finger plump with irritation and rather than spin on my finger as it normally does it was uncomfortably tight. I soaped up and struggled to remove it then washed it in jewelry cleaner. I've had it off all day (shhhh, I've been hiding my hand from hubby all day) and I'm still itching like crazy.Watch out for that stuff. I don't know what's in it but it's the first time it's irritated me like that. I think I'll stick with the dry.

Caution: Allergic Reaction To Bloodworms

Bloodworms are midge larvae, not mosquito larvae. And they're called 'bloodworms" because they're red like blood, there's no actual blood involved (well, whatever blood bugs have.....). I guess reactions are fairly common, because they have to put a warning on the package. Did you take any Benedryl?
