Can I give my crabs Extra Virgin Olive Oil? Is it good for them?

Olive oil is safe although a more natural choice would be an oily food like salmon or coconut which would be a more natural alternative. But it is totally safe.

Get some fish oil capsules at any grocery store. Your crabs will love you for it.

My guys go nuts over fish oil drizzled over worm castings. And I fry my crabby pancakes in coconut oil. They really seem to love that too.

Mine love crushed nuts (mainly the peanuts) topped with pea nut oil. They also love peanut shells, too. They usually finish a shell dish within a few days. emismommy, how do you make crabby pancakes?

Do you open up the fish oil capsules some how or do you just put them in their dish and let them break them open?

Just pierce the end of a gel cap and squeeze the contents over food or mix it with dry.I once scrambled eggs in fish oil. Stunk to high heaven, annoyed the life out of hubby and after all that, the crabs didn't go for it.I've put fish oil on sea proteins like silversides, krill, octopus, human grade or brine shrimp and sea veggies but feel free to try it on anything. If they don't eat dry, try a few dots of oil over the food.

I use the point of a safety pin and pierce the end of the gel cap. For mine they love it on worm castings but I am sure that any food would work. I cant stand the smell of the fish oil so no way I am cooking with it but more power to you if you try. lol I would also try mixing it with spirulina powder as a double whammy supplement.

Safety pins are good; I use a two pronged corn cob holder.Great idea with the spirulina and worm castings. I'll have to try that.

I used a fork and the oil splattered all the over counter. Good idea to use the safety pin or the corn cob holders - will keep that in mind! The crabs drained the dish of the fish oil, though, in any case.

I just use scissors and cut the small end and squeeze out through the slit I made. I found it easier to cut using scissors than to pierce w/ a pin.

I just offer the fish oil in a water bottle cap. I squeeze two capsules into the cap and the crabs usually empty it overnight.

But mainly, fish oil is pretty delicate and I would expect most of it to oxidize or otherwise break down with the heat of cooking (like sauteeing etc) Better to give it straight from the capsule...
