All Living Things
Ugh, I went to Petsmart today to pick up some cat supplies and it seems they've replaced their entire line of hermit crab supplies with "All Living Things" brand. At first it didn't seem so bad. Their "crab kit" includes cypress bedding which is OK, much better than gravel or colored sand anyway, and actually includes two water dishes, one for salt and one for fresh, etc (though the description of the shells as "decorate" instead of for homes was somewhat weird).Anyway, moving on, they have what looks like some nice digital hygrometers and such. And some lights. But then I got to the bottom shelf, giant wire-mesh crab cage! FAILThey also have some crab house that looks like a small hamster playset?? FAIL 2.So I was hoping to find some HBG food, but all the food is now all living things brands.I wasn't terrible. The food did not list any of the common no-nos. A meat was the first ingredient. But it wasn't really high quality. The next three ingredients were filler grains before you got to the next byproduct. The ingredient list looked quite similar to Jurassic Diet, which is OK if you're in a crunch as it doesn't contain any bad ingredients, but it's not particularly great, lots of filler and no spirulina. My crabs were pretty "eh" about it too.Anyway, somewhat a mix of "hmm here's some nice new supplies" especially the new hygrometers, but then some "doh all the old food is gone" and even a splash of "WT? wire crab cage?"

Petsmart isn't even advertizing hermit crabs for sale now on their website. The store in my area seems to have phazed them out. Good. People buy them on impulse.http://www.petsmart.com/family...FpsNotAvailInUS%2FNo

sounds like they are just taking random All living Things items and selling them as hermit crab items and just worked with what they had around the store and didn't really have any proper tanks created for it.

Yeah, I noticed it too. I was really disappointed though... there isnt any variety now- no choices! I saw the wire hermit crab cage & the also had little critter keeper kits- both disappointing to see. I needed salt water conditioner and so I bought a bottle of their brand. Instructions say to add 3 drops (I think I was 3) but there wasnt any dropper or squeeze top- weird. Anyway, I think I'll be going to Petco from now on- prices seem better and I've gotten some great deals on a few things and they seem to really care about all the animals they carry. I just don't like feeling that I am being forced into buying something because there are no other choices.

Personally, I prefer the All Living Things brand compared to what Petco carries. I went to Petco looking for some salt mix for hermits and they didn't have anything! All they had was a 16.9 oz bottle of "saltwater glub" that was $3.99! They also said that they carried saltwater conditioner, but it was in a hermit crab starter kit that was $70. When I said I needed larger amounts they said to Google what to do. I refuse to go back to Petco. My little guys (Indie, Shelldon and Kingler) actually like the All Living Things food over other brands I have gotten at different stores. In my experience in the 10 years I've owned hermies, they usually like Florida Marine Research food the best. Unfortunately I can't find it around here and as a 16 year-old, it's hard for me to get it

I have a bottle of the All Things Living hermitcrab food which I use on occasion but it never gets touched when its in the food bowl.I've had the same bottle going on two years and it's nearing the expiration date so I think when it expires I wont be getting another bottle.@ILoveHermies, the FMR(Florida Marine Research) brand pelleted food is actually one of the commercial foods we don't recommend because it has Copper Sulfate in it which is toxic to hermitcrabs in certain amounts the food contains a lot of plant proteins like Alfalfa and corn which are not easily digestible for hermitcrabs.I personally don't use FMR brand hermitcrab foods because the company has been using lesser grade product in their food blends which raises some questions as to the integrity of the food.

Huh wow I didn't realize that! Thank you so much for telling me! I've been trying to use fresh fruits and vegetables (safe ones of course) since I've had my hermies and they won't eat it :/ they've only liked the All Living Things food so far. Is that a safe food for them to be eating?

Remember to try protein with the fruits and veggies. My crabs love chicken and shrimp, krill, blood worms.
