I *doubt* the makers of that gimmick will care about the crabs. Anyone with any sense at all about animal cruelty would know what an awful idea this is. Kind of like rooster fights for entertainment. Try this link instead:http://www.floridahumanesociety.org/. If these people are based out of Orlando it may fall under their domain.

The following link is the site of the nat'l crab racing association. Shockingly, I discovered it in the Florida Marine Research site links (see other link).http://www.crabrace.com/http://www.fmrpets.com/

I found the Crab race site from FMR, as well. Kind of made me think that FMR doesn't care that much about environmental issues.

There was a thread awhile back about FMR that got so heated I believe it had to be locked. Suffice it to say, there wasn't a mention of crab racing that time around to my knowledge or it would have really been bad.I don't understand how they could call that a "Helpful Link". Anybody in Florida want to attend these wonderful events? Crab Racing Schedule

I'll tell you, the internet can bring people around the world up close, I only wish it could bring them close enough to *SMACK*!!"Animal-rights activists have complained, but "I just tell them, ‘My crabs probably live better than you do.’"Like the horses, Morgan runs only champs. He buys his from the Florida Marine Research Institute in Sarasota, their "training camp." "http://www.orlandoweekly.com/columns/story.asp?id=9735

quote:Animal-rights activists have complained, but I just tell them, "My crabs probably live better than you do." I found it very difficult to read that article, knowing especially that this is still going on. And as far as the crabs living better than the animal-rights activists, may I point out that the man who stated this was at the time making a living racing hermit crabs. I tell ya, that sounds like the high life to me. Apparently, the lure of nearby NASCAR events is nothing compared to abusing animals on a daily basis.
