So...I've noticed that the sand in my ISO tank is NOT sandcastle consistency: I can't make a small crater with one finger without the sides caving in. The sand is also starting to clump together.Thoughts?

Is anyone in it? It's possible it's just the top layer and the lower is still okay. You could start misting if someone is down, if its really bad the poke holes in the corners and add water in small amounts has been suggested. If the tank is empty then have at it, mix it up.

Thanks for responding so quickly! No one in there, but I'm afraid that the sand will grow mold and become too wet, like what happened to my main tank. Could this happen again?

If its empty I think u can just let it dry out until u need it.

You don't need to bake sand. If my sand dries out in between uses in the ISO tank, I just add spring water until it's moist again.

If you were real worried about it you could move the sand and put boiling hot water on it (not in tank). But I agree with them if there is no 'nasty' stuff in it just let it dry then wet when needed.
