Transportation in the cold?

Post by Guest » Fri Dec 09, 2005 9:50 pm

Okay, so... now, don't yell at me, I love my crabbies and take the best care of them I can, but the reason I decided to get them in the first place was because I wanted something cool to do a science project/report thing on. ^^; You know, a cool visual. (And I really wanted a pet, it's so boring without animals around.. stupid city. Stupid don't-feed-the-birds-out-your-window law.) Aaaand anyway... it's winter, and I just realized I don't actually know how I'm going to get them to school in this freezing weather. *__*;; It's a 15-20 minute walk, I can't drive, and nobody I know has a car. I was thinking some kind of insulated thing like pizza delivery guys have, but I have no idea where to get or how to make one. Any suggestions? ^--^;

You can line a shoebox with styrofoam, that will keep the heat in. For heating you can use a heat pack, a hot water bottle or a sock filled with rice (heat it in the microwave for 2 minutes).The hot water bottle is best I think because you can refill it at school.

Or they make insulated bags for food. Not too expensive, at least around here, and if you put something like the water bottle or another of Jedediah's good suggestions inside the bag with the crab (in some sort of carrier) then it should be okay.

possibly a deli container inside a styrofoam cooler with heat packs might work. be sure to put a moist sponge in ther with them.

I forgot to mention (sure you probably already know this) to make sure, if in deli container, or styrofoam, or any container, they have air holes for air ventilation.

Oh, it all went very well! ^__^ (Well the transportation part.. I'm no good at presentations, like I said before.) I found a small styrofoam box, and put some of these little hand-warmer things I have in a plastic bag (because I don't know what's in them ^^; they get warm when you open the package due to a chem. reaction, and stay warn for like 12 hours.) and under a towel. :3 (And I put in a damp sponge.)The crabs were sorta shy in class, but they came out a bit. The teacher thought they were cool. XD; I still don't know my grade yet, they haven't sent the letter or posted them online. It can't be *too* bad though... I hope..
