Climbing Net
Climbing Net
I have seen people use nets in their tanks before for the hermit crabs to climb on and thought it was a neat idea. This weekend I found some netting at a craft store and decided to try it out, but now I have some questions.First, here are some pictures of my tank and of one of the hermit crabs that has already climbed the new net I have 4 PP's and two of them are the size of the one in my second picture, the other 2 are much larger. I am worried that they will get tangled in the net and hurt themselves. I tried to pull it as tight as I could so that would be less likely to happen, but I am still afraid they could hurt themselves. I also have realized that the netting I have is thinner than what I have seen in other tanks. Do you think it is still safe to use?The other small crab was at the top earlier, but has since gone back down, so I guess they have proven they can climb up and down easily. I just think it might be harder for the smaller crabs.I am also looking for suggestions on how to hang it in the tank. If I'm going to keep it in the tank, I'm not quite sure I like the way it's set up right now. Any suggestions?

Climbing Net
I put hooks on the out side of my tank and upside down so there is tension. My toppers are heavy enough it keep them in place. I also have the hooks in my tank but right size up nd huge rocks at th bottom to hold it taught

I think I will have to keep the hooks inside the tank. Right now the net is being held in place by the lid on the tank and the driftwood holding it down at the bottom. That means there is a tiny crack for air to go in and out so I'm having a hard time keeping the humidity up. I may just take the net out again until I get some hooks. Thanks for the idea!

I also hold my net in place by using 3M hooks upside down on the outside of the tank. I just have the plexiglass lid velcro shut over it. To raise your humidity, use a spray bottle and spray all of the net each day..that boosts the humidity immediately and works very well.

Climbing Net
I have found that Bed Bath and Beyond has hooked suction cups that have a hard plastic cover and the hook is a lever that adds tension to the suction cup. They work great for me because crab claws cant get to the cup and release the vacuum, but they are a little costly.
