Welcome!First of all is your EE/coconut fiber moist throughout? If not make it moist but not soupy.Next, You need to cover more of the lid. I have a 10g tank with screen lid and 98% of it is covered with plastic wrap. Finally you can check your gage and make sure it is working properly by following instructions in this link calibrating/checking your hygrometerHope this helps you. There are other ways including using a mister but try these first before you waste a bunch of money.

Is there a way to help the sub straight dry out with out heating up the tank a lot? Can I just leave the top cracked and watch that the humidity doesn't get too low? I have recently established a 10 gallon tank (Aka I set it up an hour ago). My two little (they stand about an inch I would estimate) guys seem okay they are burrowing into the substrate and being together.I guess I'm just concerned that once again I have put them in danger.

Is the substrate too wet? I would just add dry sub to it or take some out and add dry. You want 6 or MORE inches if sub which should be sandcastle consistency.

I'll keep an eye on it and change some out when get home (I'm currently traveling with the crabs because I got them on vacation. If the sub was over-saturated before it definitely helped keep the crabitat at a decent humidity all day. I'll dig up some of the wettest sand and replace it with the EE I have left. I tried layering them so the sand, which retains water more would act as a base layer and the EE would act like a sponge to draw the moisture up and into the air and I mixed them together in some spots to make digging easier. The bag of EE I bought said I should completely change the sub every 4-6 weeks... is there any truth to that? I was going to spot clean the sub daily, which was recommended on some of the forums here (food bits, fresh/ clean water, etc).I know my crabitat has a ways to go, but I think my crabs are enjoying it way more than the stupid cage thing already. This page has been so helpful.

Depending on the size of your tank, you will want to change every 6 months to a year, really huge tanks can go 18 months.
