What are some good hermit crab treats?

I dont really want to buy treats for my hermits if i can make them myself. Do any of you guys have a recipe for treats or good suggestions that i could get from the grocery store? I am sure that one of you guys has a recipe for a blend of ingredients to make good treats. If for some reason you dont want to post your recipe on the whole forum, the you can just pm me.

Just go to tho food list on here and give them different things everyday or something out of the ordinary, that is a treat in itself. Crabs in the wild don't know what treats are, they just know looking for food. You can move their food bowl and water bowl to so they have to go looking for them. This is also a stimulating treat.

Basically so called hermit crab treats are just a mix/variety of foods. If you only have a couple of crabs its probably easier to buy it from the Hermit Crab Patch or Hermit Crab Addiction stores. If you have quite a few mix and match to make your own variety. Like Laurie says just changing &/or moving things can be a stimulating treat to them.Organic fruits, veggies, nuts, peanut butter, and honey. Unflavored/plain popcorn can be given on occasion and most really like it. Certain flowers and leaves are good for them to eat. Eggs and crumbled shells are also good. Organic babyfood is ok too.I believe the safe food list is located at the top of the Zoea forum.Always use organic cuz the pesticides used on the other fruit/veggies can be harmful/fatal to the crabs.

My crabs go nuts over the frozen silversides at the pet store. That's not really something you can make yourself, but you get a ton of them for the price. My crabs will devour it and stay super active and fun to watch for hours if I give them a thawed one. Just be prepared for a smelly mess!

A good place to look is in the baby food aisle at the supermarket. You can find all kinds of organic baby foods that are OK for crabs. My recent find was a cold cereal like treat that they love. Mine also love any fruit treats from the aisle, especially smoothie drops.

Date rolls! Great for humans and loved by crabs! You can buy them at the store or make them which seems to be much cheaper. DatesA tad of boiling water just poured over the dates but not cover. Soak them for 10-15mins. Make sure they are pitted and put into a food processor and run until mushed. Roll into balls and roll balls in unsweetened coconut. Devour!
