First time I've ever seen my crab eat!

I currently have a new crab in iso waiting to join my lonely E in the main tank, and these past few weeks have been the only times I've ever seen my E (or any crab) eat. As soon as I bring in a new dish he crawls right over and starts snacking. Don't know why he's so into his food, is he just lonely? My new crab has been under since around Memorial Day and I haven't seen a trace of him since. Worried but I'm hoping for the best!

If your crab hasn't buried to molt recently it is probably preparing to do so. Just before crabs bury for long periods of time ike to molt they stock up on as much food/nutrients as they can along with water. This helps hold them over until they come back up and once again will act like they're starved to death eating as much as they can. During this time and well anytime really you need to make sure the crab(s) are getting a wide variety of foods/nutrients. In the zoea forum there is a categorized food list that shows all the different nutrients they need. Make sure to check that out and that your providing all of it for a happy healthy crab. Getting all of the nutrients needed will make the molting process much easier.
