pavestone playsand?

so when i put the playsand in i realized that there were some little white pebbles, so i put in the oven for almost an hour. when i put it back in the tank there were still some pebbles. are the pebbles a chemical of some sort and if so did the oven kill it off and sterilize it well enough? also when i wet it and the eco earth it it started sticking a little to my hand and it dried just a bit and hardened a little bit, i washed it off with water. it doesn't smell chemically. it says natural on it, but you can't always believe what companies say. it also says can be used in garden to loosen up soil,and it had little pebbles. also it did say can be used in play areas. and below the words pavestone it says can make beautiful landscapes. will this sand cement my hermit crabs and dry them out or was that because i made it wet or too wet? has anyone else used pavestone? is it okay? is this just how playsand is?

it also says high desert sand.

Do you have the ability to take a photo of the bag the sand came in? If it is play sand, designed to go in a child's sandbox, it should be fine. How big are the pebbles? Are they just rocks?Is this it? Sand.If so, it should be fine.

it does say pavestone on it, the word and format of the word looking exactly the same, but the bag color is different, it is brown and whitish gray. it also does say creating beautiful landscapes, and natural, the rest i am not sure.

You can put a link to one of the photo sharing sites with you photo uploaded in it. I use Facebook but there are plenty of others like photobucket.

I think I found your answer. I am on my Kindle I don't know how to copy and paste, but found where someone asked about using it in an aquarium. They said it was play sand, but for a fish tank w fish it wouldn't work well cause of the sand clogging up the filter system. So I assume as long it doesn't have huge massive rocks that would cause the sand to cave while molting it will be fine. Most bags will have something on it saying what it can be used for and list play sand. The one I buy is at Lowe's it has huge big letters PLAY SAND, no missing that lol! Farm king sells a white type play sand it's all natural to I love it makes your tank very stylish but it's 8$ a bag and a 55 gal tank takes a lot. Yep I tried to copy and paste and no can do...

Most chemicals would dissolve in water if you put a lot of water does the pebble dissolve or crumble. Also you can tell if there are any oily substances by covering the sand with water before putting into the tank. Usually when I get a bag of play sand I put about 1/3 of it into a bucket or whatever and cover with water making sure to stir and if any oily residue rises to the top of the water I don't use it. (I've never actually had that happen though.)Almost always in the play sand I get there will be different sized pebbles all tiny/small if there is some pieces bigger than a pea that I notice I'll take them out there shouldn't be very many if any at all. But that's what sand is it's all tiny pebbles.

well when i put the sand in the water it became inpossible to see the sand as the water got cloudy brown and there were black little bubble stuff on part of the top! what the! i don't want to have to redo everything i have already done by taking it all out! did the oven at least kill those chemicals, so they will be there but cause no harm?

The oven would kill growing things in the sand (bugs, mold spores, bacteria) but it cannot remove chemicals.

I never rinsed or baked my play sand, but once it as such a huge smelly mess ! I made sure I bought it inside, it wasn't wet and didn't have an odor. The rare tube looking play sand these people mostly buy to put in the back of their cars and trucks for weight those tend to hives oily smell. The ones indoors in bags usually are clean.

If it's pavestone sand like what's used for decks and industrial projects my parents had a deck installed last year and that stuff has tons of chemicals in it and since it seems that everyone's saying such things are harmful to crabs as they would be tobis if we were living directly in it I wouldn't used it. Normal playsand from a hardware or toys store is fine however.
