How to fix humidity problems.

Post by Horsejazz34 » Mon Aug 18, 2014 12:35 pm

My humitity drops to 70 then spikes when I add water with sprayer and then if I also cover the top part with suran wrap it holds at 90. Will this backhand forth for the past day and a half already mean a death sentence to these new crabs. Also If the humidity is slightly over 80 is that ok? Plus someone said not to use the reptile heat lap because it will hurt humitity but it's all I have and I can't get anything else. Please help these.Guys mean a world to me. PS there having trouble hiring in one of their water bowls so how can I help them out? some PPS somewhere it said your supposed to bath these guys is this complete nonsense or not and if it's not how do I do it properly?

Use the saran wrap and try to get the humidity stable by covering and uncovering in small increments until you get it set. 80% humidity is fine, 90 is pushing it but 70 is not good. How is the humidity with the heat lamp? Most small tanks it will cause the humidity to plummet and it can make the tank too hot with no escape. Maybe if you set it up so it is further away from the tank but still adds some heat? Boil some smooth rocks and use those or some shells or if you have needlepoint plastic canvas, all those can work in water bowls to help crabs in/out.The only time you need to bathe them is if they have mites and you are trying to get rid of them. If your water dishes are deep enough, they will properly bathe themselves.

It is possible they have been harmed by the lack of heat and humidity while in your care BUT it is more likely they have been harmed by the process of getting to you in the first place. All you can do is your best. Keep learning about them and keep fixing the problems as you can.

Lack of heat hasn't been a problem for the most part cause it's really warm outside humititys more the problem. I've only had the temp go slightly below 75 once when the humity was too high and I turned the lap on and it aleast temporarily fixed both.
