I just got some cuttlebone for a molting crab but do I put the whole thing in there or break off a piece or powder it into their food bowl?

Yes. Any of those methods works. Mine prefer powdered in a bowl with other calcium sources.

You can put it in the tank in large chunks (or whole) or you can crush it up into powder and put it in a bowl. I had one crab who dragged around a chunk of cuttle bone like his blankey for 3 month. I always knew where he was at because the cuttle would be sticking up in the sand wherever he'd gone down.Personally, I keep a bowl that is a mix of powdered cuttlebone, mineral sand, and crushed oyster shells in the tank at all times in addition to their food that I change in and out. I also have a natural sand dollar in the tank whole for them to play with/nibble on if they want.Sorry, I misread the date as April 1, not March 1. Did not mean to drag up a dead post!
