HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I have wanted to but hesitated several times about getting rolls of hemp to make nets with. Wal-Mart has it but it doesn't say whether or not there is any thing blended with it or if it has any additives/coatings. Does anyone know if the hemp you get from Wal-Mart is safe for the crabs?

I seen and heard that most people use hemp in the Crabitat and the crabs are fine .. I use to use nets, but personally I dont . Should be safe

You can generally tell if the hemp is plain or has anything on it as its usually on the packaging somewhere.I know wally world offers hemp twine that has a wax or sometimes oil coating on it to give it a shine or sheen and it will say that on the label.Hemp that has been shined or sheened can be used but that all depends on the agent used to do the shining.

Not sure about what Walmart has, but I got my net from Michael's craft store. It's just an old fishing net that they package and resell for decor. I got more than I can ever use at once (so have extra for replacing, etc) fairly cheap using the 40% off coupon you can get from their weekly circular or print from their website. I have been happy with it

Thanks. I will recheck the label on the one at Walmart and if I don't see anything on the label I will go ahead and use it. I don't have a Michael's close that I know of but I do have a Hobby Lobby about 40 minutes away. I only go about once maybe twice a year though.
