3 day power outage and crabs survived

Early storm took out power across most of Massachusetts Saturday. We went three days with no electricity or heat, house temps in the low 50s and outdoor temps in the low 30s. Wrapped my tank with everything I had from comforters to blankets and sleeping bags and stuffed the cabinet below it to prevent cold from rising up to the bottom glass. It killed me to see it like that for three days, not knowing what the climate was, if they were alive or not, if the food was moldy. Absolute torture and on more than one occasion I hugged the tank, cheek laid to the top of it and told them "Hang in there babies." And they did. =)All that are on the surface are alive and alert, and one buried crab that left me a window is as well. I now have all my day/night bulbs on to boost that temp back up because their shells are FREEZING. I don't know how they survived it but I'm thrilled.

How wonderful!! I'm so glad to hear this. We think the house has power back as of this afternoon. My husband is going to check on it. One more night in the hotel then we can go home and empty out the refrigerator, it's gonna smell bad. Everyone will be happy once we can go home though.Crabbielover - I love that idea.Peg

We had our refrigerated and freezer goods packed in snow in coolers on the deck and boiled water for hot chocolate and cup a soup on a camping stove on the stoop outside. I'd just done a big market run in case we got snowed in, just wasn't expecting a multi day power outage.CL, I like that idea too.
