I have sunflowers growing in my garden. Anyone have experience feeding them fresh sunflowers? Any advice on when and how?

I don't have any experience with feeding sunflower seeds to hermit crabs, but I know it is fairly easy to tell when they are ripe. The first clue for us is the million birds that move into the garden. (We have a mass migration to our yard at the end of every summer for our sunflowers.) The other thing is the seeds will fall off the flower really easily when they are ready. We usually leave them for the birds since I enjoy watching them in the yard, but perhaps I will harvest some for the hermit crabs this year.
yup, it's me.

You should be able to give the petals anytime, but I would wait until the seeds are ripe before giving them. The flower will be mostly dried up and the seeds will come off easily. You could dry some petals out and store for later use too.
