Mushrooms I found outside; Safe oR unsafe?
I found these mushrooms on the grass outside. There were lots of different sizes. Does anyone know what the ID of these mushrooms? I showed someone else and was told that they are wild poisonous mushrooms. But I would like more opinions Are these poisonous to crabs and us??

If memory serves correct you are outside of the "continental" U.S.A. so this may not apply as I am unaware what varieties you have local.I have always heard and been told by many people not to pick our own mushrooms. There are a lot of them that are poisonous and it is extremely difficult to tell the edible from the nonedible. Several experienced people have gotten sick because they thought they had picked the rights kind only to find out they were toxic. I don't have an answer for the crabs though I would rather be safe than sorry and not give it to them. Make sure you wash your hands really good and anything you touched for that matter.

I'm in the USA in VA Thanks for your commentIt's been sealed in a bag, I washed my hands and it's tossed out. I saw stories that others picked mushrooms outside, and fed them to their crabs. I think I saw a thread on a board on hermit crab associationBut also , I'm looking for other things that my crabs have not ate before

Yep those are definitely toxic to both crabs and us you can tell by the dome of the mushroom that it is completely inedible unfortunately. It looks like a strain of Lawnmowers Mushroom ie Panaeolus foenesecii, it has been shown to have varying levels of toxicity depending on where its grown and the toxin is called psilocybin and is a hallucinogen. This mushroom doesn't normally contain enough psilocybin to hurt a full grown human being but can hurt a small child sending it to the hospital so one would have to assume since hermitcrabs are so much smaller than us by body volume that anything dangerous to a toddler is down right lethal to a little crabby. We've never recommended feeding wild mushrooms to hermitcrabs as there are just to many inedible types that readily grow in your yard that contain fungal toxins that destroy the liver and kidneys and fungal toxins do not respond to heat ie cooking and so can not be cooked out to make the plant edible. My recommendation is throw out the mushrooms.
