Wild Hermit crabs

Post by NickB » Sat Dec 07, 2013 7:25 am

For Christmas I want'd to ask for those overnight shipped hermit crabs from livehermitcrabs.com (or whatever the site is) And My folks mentioned that my cousins are going to Ecuador and they could just bring me some home. I know that it isn't good but I don't know why. Could someone explain it to me?

The primary reason it's not good is because it's illegal to bring wildlife or farm products into the States, your cousins would get into a lot of trouble if they just tried to bring some wild crabs through customs.

Just let them live where they are. Get one that is already captive to give him/her a good life. Don't take free ones away from their world.

Also they could bring home a different type of crab that requires different care than what is normally shipped to pet stores. There is a type that requires mainly living in ocean water. It looks similar to a land hermit crab. The chances of the crab surviving from your relation plucking it from the wild and getting it to you is slim..your best bet is to buy one
