Buying Shells Online

Post by jordan51ayers » Mon Sep 08, 2014 6:23 am

Ive been looking into buying my crabs new shells from an online store but first i have a couple questions. Is it a good idea to buy shells online? if not what are some better ways for getting shells? How do i know that the shells are the correct size or if they're good quality?

You can order shells from any number of online retailers and the shells listed should have a measurement for the opening you'd need to know the exact measurement for the opening of the shells your crabs are in now to be able to order appropriately. The easiest way I have found to get the right measurement is to use an empty shell that is the exact same kind and size then either use a ruler or measuring tap and measure across the mouth of the opening at the widest point.Once thats done you can then oder more shells with the same opening size, it's also advisable to get some a little smaller and some a little larger as well to give your crabs a good variety to chose from.Deltona sea shells, The Hermit Crab Patch and Naples Sea Shell company are all good trusty worth sites for ordering hermitcrab shells.A lot of our members have used these sites to get their shells pretty regularly for the past few years with no complaints.

Thanks for the advice! I measured them like you suggested and found some perfect shells from Naples Sea Shell Company. Hopefully they will be here soon!
