Crab missing both pinchers

Post by queenelsa17 » Wed Aug 06, 2014 5:43 am

I had left my hermit crabs in the care of my family's housekeeper for the third or fourth time. She knows what to do and how to take care of them. I left home for 7 weeks, one of my two molted, I do not know which one though. When I came home about a week ago, my smaller crab (not significantly smaller than the other) was missing both of its pinchers. What happened? Will he/she be ok? He/she has been eating by getting really close to the food in their dish, which I saw this morning. Was it a fight? Please help

I'm sorry that your having such issues with your crab but we need you to copy and answer the questions found here so that we can better assist you.I will go on ahead and say this limb dropping is typically a stress response and if it isn't stopped the crab will typically drop all of its limbs including the walking legs and will quickly use up all of its resources wearing itself out and in most cases the crab passes within two to four days of loosing all limbs. We need to see the answers to the questions in the link I gave to get a better picture of whats going on and what could have contributed to the extra stress.
