Got three new PP's while on vacation.

I've just now decided to post this because they only have about one week left in iso and they are all doing very well.I was able to sex them while at the beach and they are all males which keeps the record going in my tank out of the twelve that I have now only one is a female, it seems as if females are getting harder to come by which I know is because of tightened regulations on how large/old and what gender hermitcrabs the harvesting companies are now being allowed to take.This I believe has to do with the fact that hermitcrab populations the world around are starting to suffer from the over harvesting thats been going on for the last four or five decades.You have to look at hermitcrabs kind of like sea turtles for a female hermitcrab to successfully replace herself she would need to have at least twenty eggs hatch as females and make it ashore and live to be seven to ten years old which is when females become full adults and are able to mate and lay fertile eggs, males on the other hand reach adult-hood at the tender age of five or thereabouts..To few females are reaching adult-hood with each successive generation so technically the generation before is not actually replacing itself which is leading to a decline in some of the more delicate species like the Strawberry or Coenobita( this word is pronounced Show-No-Bita, and literally means shielded) Perlatus.I was also able to find out that new import regulations have been established on land hermitcrabs as they are now being classified as a food stuff because a lot of locals where these crabs come from eat them... Anyway I just thought I would introduce my three newbies to the group, they don't have names yet though.lol
