Hello again!

Post by Mikau132 » Wed Jul 23, 2014 4:06 am

I haven't been on since last summer, but I'd like to jump back into the forum life. My hermits are doing fine, there are 8 of them now, mostly from rescues from around the neighborhood. They're all in a 20 gallon, which is super overcrowded, but I've had a population boom with all the kids coming back from beaches with the Kritter Keeper setup. My isos have been full! Luckily I'll be getting them into a new 75 gallon by the end of next month. 3 of them are molting at the moment, so I'll move the 5 that are up first then wait for the remaining 3 to surface. In other news, I've started making my own powdered hermie food. I bought an old coffee grinder at a yard sale, and ground up oyster shells, organic cereals, carrot flakes, spirulina powder, and several other foods they like. I mix it with a little honey and some declorinated water and the bowl is almost always empty by morning. I also pieced together a filtered saltwater pool. I used the top half of a gallon jug with plastic mesh on the inside attached to one of my mother's kombucha bottles with a 2.5 gallon filter that also aerates the water. They love it! I'll post a link to some pictures later. Here's to hoping for the 75 gallon coming sooner than later!
