Hello! We are new here. I've had hermits off and on since '99. We currently have a 20g long with seven PP. I revamped the tank today, the first three pictures are before and all that follow are after. I use small 3 in opening flower pots and Chobani yogurt containers for caves.

Very nice! I like the clay flowerpots, I might try that! How do they like them?

Some of them love the clay flowerpots and hang out in them, others just ignore them completely. I think they find it as a quick get away in "crabby emergencies" (ie human or cat passing by). I have one who tunnels under them. They are also pretty easy to clean but they do take a little while to dry so I have extras just in case. I don't crack them in half like some people do to make a "cave", I just put them in as they come.

Also, I got them for super cheap (under $1) at a local craft store.

What is your mix? It doesn't look like it's straight sand, if sand at all. I would love to know what you use!

I love the idea of creating caves for the crabs.

It is definitely sand and EE mix. I used one brick of EE to about 23lbs of sand. The crabs didn't really know what to think of it at first but they seemed to have figured it out and are digging happily. Also, they really do appreciate the caves and so do I. I notice that a lot of them stay above ground for longer if they have somewhere they can dart to if they get startled. They also seem to be a lot less scardy crabs knowing that they can hide if they need to.
