What if they don't eat their exo?

Post by saberkitty » Thu Jul 31, 2008 1:16 pm

Okay so the large PP we rescued from Petsmart on June 6 was missing it's big pincher. It's been in iso this whole time and molted, but in 2 weeks it doesn't look like it's eaten hardly any of it's exo. Should I offer extra calcium sources? There is a large piece of cuttlebone in the tank. I guess I'm just wondering if there other reasons they need to eat the exo besides calcium and if it can be substituted with other sources?

You can crush the exo in the food dish and mix it with some other foods. Sometimes the cuttlebone will sit in the tank and the hermie will not touch it. I powder it and shake some on top of the food. I use a small empty salt shaker.

I had a crab that didn't eat his exo, and Nicole advised me to give him some shrimp exo - the part that you pull off when you eat cocktail shrimp.
