Petco dollar-per-gallon sale starts 3/27/16
Petco dollar-per-gallon sale starts 3/27/16
Hope I'm putting this friendly PSA in the right forum! I was at Petco yesterday and staff told me that the dollar per gallon tank sale starts with the next new ad cycle, which they confirmed is tomorrow (3/27/16). Note that it's on standard sizes only: 10, 20 (not sure if this includes 20L), 29 (I think, she said 30), 40 breeder, 55. Don't know how long the sale lasts.
I'm taking the hubs with me since we're looking for something very specific to fit our space. But at the very least I'm going to snap up a bigger tank to combine our fish/snails and cut down on maintenance!
Side rant: I'm annoyed with pet store employees that steer owners to terrariums with screen lids not rated to hold water, which are also more expensive for the same size tank. They even got my very practical and not at all gullible hubs. Because of this I now have a 5g, 10g, and 20g that are absolutely useless as fish tanks (I was hoping I could recycle them for fish once I move my crabs into a bigger habitat). It seems smarter to me to "overbuy" a less expensive tank rated for water even if you don't need it, so you have more options for less money. On a good note, the Petco employee steered me to fish tanks for this reason, so bonus points for her. Rant over!
Happy shopping!

I was sad when I missed the petsmart dollar per gallon sale because I was looking for a bigger tank but I bought a tank just last week spent 32 on a 20 gallon long when I could have gotten a 30 gallon for the same price, well this stinks haha. My luck
Re: Petco dollar-per-gallon sale starts 3/27/16
Did you already set your 20L up? If not, you could exchange it. Maybe if you go back with the receipt and it's only been a week, they will refund you the difference (kind of like returning it and buying it again). But I guess that doesn't get you a bigger tank.Candie wrote:I was sad when I missed the petsmart dollar per gallon sale because I was looking for a bigger tank but I bought a tank just last week spent 32 on a 20 gallon long when I could have gotten a 30 gallon for the same price, well this stinks haha. I haven't set it up but it's from petsmart not petco so I would have to return it and then run to petco which is quite far. It would be too much to run around plus if I got my 30 bucks back and got a 30 gallon for the same price I would have to return the screen Lid and try to find a 30 gallon lid which are hard to find here, actually just screen lids are almost never in Stock and I'm lucky to find the only one they had, I'll just stick with mine but next time I'll be sure to check for any saleshprmom wrote:Did you already set your 20L up? Hmm... just spitballing here... A 20L and a 29 gallon have the same footprint, so you should be able to use the same screen lid that you would have used on the 20L on the 29 (unless it's proprietary and only fits one brand of tank or something). Is a screen lid your first choice? I'm fairly new to crabbing but it seems like most of the people here prefer glass lids to hold in humidity and heat. I live in Florida where it's humid most of the time, and even I am having to put plastic over my screen lids to maintain good conditions. Glass lids in various sizes are usually easier to find. On the other hand, the hassle of doing a return and driving a long distance may wind up costing just as much money and effort. Just brainstorming in case you really want the bigger tank. Cheers!Candie wrote:I haven't set it up but it's from petsmart not petco so I would have to return it and then run to petco which is quite far. Actually it's a 29 gallon lid that's a little lose on it, the way it's made it can bend the edges to make it fit, on my 10 gallon I have a screen Lid but have it covered in plastic cling wrap to seal in humidity which works just fine, my pet store didn't have any other lids only a 29 and a 10 gallon screen, there were litteraly 2 lids in Stock and the 29 fit the tank pretty well, I was going to have some glass cut but it was more expensivehprmom wrote:Hmm... just spitballing here... When I checked for my area it says through May 7. I'm really hoping to talk my husband into a 29 gallon.hprmom wrote:Stopped by today and verified, sale is definitely on. Forgot to ask when it ends, again!

I hate the UK tanks are so expensive
Re: Petco dollar-per-gallon sale starts 3/27/16
When I mentioned the sale to my mom she was wondering what brands were going to be part of the deal-- I had no idea and I'm not particular about which kind so I was kinda like,
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Looks like it's Aqueon, & I'll let her know, haha. Thanks for sharing!
Since you've got until May 7 I hope you'll have luck with your hubby & the 29 gal.
I'm trying to convince myself it's okay to get one because it's such a good deal-- but I don't NEED one right now so I'm torn. BUT THOSE PRICES THOUGH! lol

Heads up, you may have to pay tax on the original price for the tank, not the sale price. I purchased a 20 gallon one in January and I paid twice the amount of tax. S
