Moved Crab Tank-Concerned

Post by mermaids_chorus » Wed Mar 09, 2016 9:02 pm

Right now we are completely re-carpeting the upstairs. This means the crab tank had to be moved. I am currently extremely worried that this move stressed them out. :( :( I have 3 down, I'm assuming for a molt, and 1 up (who is my most shy/scared one). I also have one new crab in Iso; he was moved gently to another room since the tank is smaller. Anyways, we had to move the tank to the bathroom temporarily and I am worried the bumps might have harmed the crabs underground or collapsed their tunnels ( they are sandcastle consistency) or scared my crab above horribly. We have to move the tank, yet again, tomorrow when the carpet is finished. Do you think they will be okay throughout all this bumpy moving? We are trying to be as careful as possible, but I am massively worried and stressed about this whole process.  Doesn't help the tank is so heavy with all the sand (it's a 30 gallon). I apologize if this seems paranoid but I love these little guys so much and I will be devastated if something happened/happens. I really appreciate any replies.

P.S. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. It didn't seem to fit into any of the other ones. :anon:

I would keep and eye in them, but they should be ok, was the tank moved as gently as it could have been?

It bumped a few times but it was moved as gently as we could move it. Thanks for the reply!

I had to have my husband carry a 10 gallon that was loaded to the top with moist sand and 6 molters (he struggled with it) when our furnace had to replaced during 10 degree days a few years ago. He carried it downstairs to where we had heaters running, and then back upstairs once things were fixed. All the molters came up fine in a few weeks. :)

Thank you so much for letting me know; that gives me a lot of relief! Glad to hear it was a success for you! :) I did notice that the one who was up has now gone down (probably needs to de-stress). We have about one more move yet and then we should be good. :)

FWIW, I had to move a tank once with a molter, it was a much smaller tank, but he was fine. I upgraded tanks, and one guy was molting in the old small tank. we moved the tank, and I agonized for weeks until he popped up, totally fine!
