Tank change

Post by Giner13 » Sun Jul 17, 2016 2:06 pm

So I am buying a bigger tank tomorrow for my 2 hermies. What's the easiest way to get everything transferred over with the least stress to the guys?
It's a 15gal.

Hi Giner! I'm also prepping for my tank change although mine is a 75 gal with about 25 crabbies! Prepping is the best way to start. Have everything you need ready to go. I have a large plastic tote that I use along with old substrate that I'm replacing to put all of my buddies in. I make sure that my Eco earth is ready and my new sand as well. For a smaller tank you may be able to mix the two before hand. I then empty about 1/3 of the old substrate before I move my crew. As quickly a possible I then remove and replace all substrate, wash the glass with vinegar/water solution place back essential pieces (food bowls, water, shells, etc) replace the crew and leave them alone.
My guys are always thrilled with the cleanings as they're incredibly curious and love to explore what's new and exciting!
Don't be afraid to let a day or so go by before adding in xtras. I usually take a few days because of the size of my tank and am blessed that my crabbies don't mind the interruptions rather they come out to explore what "mom" is doing. Sometimes it's a ""Take Your Time but Hurry Up!!"" type of thing, lol. Just be sure to get your humidity and heat correct as soon as you can. Hope this helps a bit and friends, as always, feel free to add or correct!!

Thanks Nonna!! I just finished prepping my new tank part of the way to get conditions good overnight.
I'm going to let my guys have their last hoorah in the old tank, then change everything else quickly in the morning when they're asleep for the day lol
