need help with water dish

Post by isadoraisacat » Thu Jul 21, 2016 5:03 pm

Ok so one of my 4 crabs is a little guy. I my salt water dish which is one of those shallow fake stone dishes, but my fresh water dish is a glass ash tray i bought at a dollar store , and sterilized , i'm using sea sponges from THP for now only to ensure he has something to climb out of. I have also made a ramp in with a grapewood stick i soaked over night in salt water to prevent mold. I want to upgrade and make them all pools of salt water, and fresh water. But i have questions. I'm only a month into this and ive spent near 500 bucks setting these guys up, and its still not good enough for me. I would like to make 2 water pools with stones, and bubbles etc for them. What kind of stones do i use (where to i buy them), how do i make the bubbles etc etc and lastly how can i make something my small guy can get in and out with out any worries? if possible if i could have links to all stores to purchase the items I need and clear directions (im really bad at following directions but i will try). My biggest fear is my small one not being able to get out and drowning. Thanks !!!

This is really all just preferences... But id get two deep round Pyrex dishes (crystal clear). I got my rock's in the decorative isle in my local home goods store (soak them). Added a little greenery and a six inch cholla branch (entrance/exit). Also, you can add a air stone and fish pump for bubbles, with pump you will have to clean out 1-2 times a week. Without i clean mine every other day. They are natural climbers so the cholla branch is a sure fire escape route! Have fun hope you post pics :)

Also, i hate to be the bearer of bad news... If you aren't doing everything out of a dollar store or garage sale, you will spend much more! Im on my third tank with intensions of moving up again. Shells, UTH, Hermies Kitchen, decore, sub, salt, dechlor, and much more. This is my second go around with crabs and i have spent mucho money this time (we know alot more now than when this all started)! Although, I've seen people make beautiful tanks cheap.

I will warn, while pretty, I quickly changed out my round bowls, because they take up a lot more space, and you can't really fit them together side by side like square dishes. It's only a preference though.

I was going to do 2 sandwich tupperwares and put the airs stones and gravel and pump than make ramps for each dish just can't figure out how it would bend. I'm not very handy so trying to prepare it all in advance

after an hour walking around walmart and 16 dollars in taxi fair
I have set up my pools. We used 2 tupper wares, with the crochet mesh
I have used to very very large shells at the bottom to weigh down
the ramp in the pool and for climbing support. Than the back part
i used zip ties to loop it around to thicken it up and buried the end a bit
in the substrate. so far so good, i tested it by putting the littlest it one
at the begging of the ramp and he was able to climb up just fine.
eventually im going to use larger tupperware and add aquarium gravel
and put in an air stone and pump and make it nice and bubbly.
But thats after i upgrade to a 55 gallon in about 2 weeks.
