Not sure I can give you a direct answer but vast majority of the time I don't see our hermies drink or take a bath in the pools. I have on occasion seen them drink the condensation from the glass or from our mushroom ledge or straddle the side of the pool for a scoop of water. But the sightings are infrequent. They will drink and bathe as they feel necessary.

I have a lot of crabs so there is usually always someone in the water dish.

It's always a good idea to remember that they are nocturnal ninjas and will often do things when you aren't around to see them.

I just got the crabs 3 weeks ago. There are 2 in the tank. For a while I was constantly changing the water because they were always dragging substrate into the water dishes, but I haven't had to do that for awhile. I haven't seen one crab in a few days so hopefully it just went down to molt. Maybe that was the messy one.

I worry because somewhere in that timeframe I switched from bottled to dechlorinated tap water. I'll try spring water again to see if it makes a difference.
