Natural Jute Cord/Spanish Moss?

Post by PinchersAndShells » Sat Sep 03, 2016 4:47 pm

I made an impulse buy at the craft store, because I thought this would be perfect to make the crabs a fishnet out of. I spent $1.36 so it was fairly cheap. It's by CraftMedley Creative Essentials. It's 2 ply. It doesn't feel very oily either, but I want to see if you guys give it a yay or nay. I plan on cleaning it before I use it in the 'tat.

Another thing I was curious about there, was their bags of Spanish moss. I didnt buy it, but I'm still curious about it. On the bag it said it's terrarium safe, but I was wondering if you guys would recommend it? It was a natural color too. I'm mainly wondering how well it would hold humidity as its dried out in the bag, or if I should just order moss from the HCP.

From what I've read so far, the Spanish moss is out of the question. But, the Jute cord is up in the air still, so I'd like to hear some opinions on that. :)

Natural jute or hemp twine is fine to use for creating hammocks or climbing walls. I've gotten my jute and hemp twine from Walmart, also on the cheap.

Spanish moss is a no-go, especially products from a craft store as they're sold for use as decor and have been treated. What you'll want is sphagnum moss or beaked moss. ZooMed Terrarium Moss is good but on the pricey side. This sphagnum moss is very good and affordable: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Mosser-Lee-4 ... /202745057
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
On the Big Beach in the Sky: Murray, Gino, Oscar, Gordon, Ignatz, Harry and King Felix the Pale
Also Mom to Imogene the Syrian Hamster

Thank you so much! I'll be sure to keep your moss recommendation in mind, being able to go to a store nearby instead of ordering things is always a better choice. I've already started on my fishnet for the crabbies to climb on, and I'm liking how it's turning out! The only problem I'm having is that I've been crocheting for 2 hours and 30 minutes so my finger is kinda sensitive.
