Success!!!
Re: Success!!!
I got a great selection from Joann's. The E changed into one of the whale eyes and the PP's went crazy over the turbos. I'm using the flat shells as food dishes and will be making picture frames with the flat shells for gifts. I also sent some smaller turbos to some people who needed them for their smaller crabbies. Well worth it!

Yeah I got a bunch of those in a variety pack. Most of them were rather large with one being the size of the palm of my hand. So PPs do like those shells? I've seen some people's crabs with them on here so I thought I'd offer them just in case, especially since they're so big.Kermie16 wrote:Wow!! I'm going to have to do a drive by at Joanns! Looks like u got some of those whales or shark eye shells and I am in need of some for our little black sheep - only one that doesn't prefer turbos

The shells in the pile that is mismatched are flat shells that were broken or really jagged. Some were land snail shells, those really long spiral ones. There's also a few conches and unusable turbos. I set those apart so that my friend can pick some up for her aquarium. She loves the beach so I figured she'd want some sea shells.

Purple pinchers tend to prefer round opening shells, but there will be the occasional one to wear an oddball. It's always fine to offer different types of shells in addition to the turbos though!Paradi wrote:Yeah I got a bunch of those in a variety pack. Thanks raw! I figured I'd clean and add them just in case since my little Olve so far hasn't taken well to turbos. He decided to take up home in a too small apple murex before going down for a molt. Regardless I have about 30 turbos, murexes, and whale eyes that I'll be adding in various sizes so my two babies have plenty of options.Rawrgeous wrote:Purple pinchers tend to prefer round opening shells, but there will be the occasional one to wear an oddball. Re: Success!!!
After my haul from Joann's I now have two hanging shell shops, a shell shop I created by using the water bowl on top of the rock cave, a small shell pile and a medium shell pile. They have more options than I have clothesParadi wrote:Thanks raw! I figured I'd clean and add them just in case since my little Olve so far hasn't taken well to turbos. Re: Success!!!
the way they are shaped they aren't suitable crab homes. i took the ones i got (from joanns none the less!) since they all have calcium crusted on the tops and put them in my saltwater pool on the ramp. that first night i saw my crabs eating off of them. i also will put them in the freshwater pool as a crab safety net if you will and every once in awhile i will even throw one or two on the netting. i just already have a whole bag to crush up AND a calcium powder so im trying to find other things i can do with the extra not crab home appropriate shells.kieagcarm wrote:I don't know the name, but I got a bunch out of my Joann fabrics haul, along with a bunch of turbos. I put both in my tank but no one has gotten in any of the shells from my shopping trip. Hope your hermits like them better than mineParadi wrote:
By the way, does anyone know what these shells are?? I imagine the crabs won't take to them. I need to double check the preferred Shell stickie. I read it once a while back
