Good Mites or Bad Mites?
Good Mites or Bad Mites?
I found these Mites in my tat, and one or two on BFG, so I'm worried they're bad Mites... here's a video of them to see what type they are, thanks in advance!

I could never let mites crawl all over me like that Have checked out the "What's that bug in my crabitat?" Page? I believe that is what it's called... It may be of help to you

I'm not really bugged by bugs (lol) that was the only way I could get them on a surface that you guys could actually see them on... I have looked at that page, but I still couldn't figure it out. Any ideas as to if these are something to worry about?

Do they fly? They kinda look like gnats or little sand flys

I don't think so but they jump, they're not fleas though I've seen fleas before, they look like they might have wings

The "bad mites" are red in color and hang out on the crabs soft spots like the joints between their legs.
Re: Good Mites or Bad Mites?
So these pesky little grey ones don't do anything?

Re: Good Mites or Bad Mites?
I'm going to sound like a pain... Is it possible to get some closeups of the bugs in question....
All I can see in the vid is a could of blackish specks running up your arm! A good macro shot can really help identify what they are.

Since its on the crabs, I would view them as predatory. A good deep clean, multiple baths and boiling/washing/baking of everything should get rid of them.

Often the red colour is a good indication, but I also though that tan/black/brown/other colour mites can also be predatory?Rawrgeous wrote:The "bad mites" are red in color and hang out on the crabs soft spots like the joints between their legs.

I could try to get a macro shot, sure! I've got a macro lens on my camera so when I have a chance I'll upload a closeup, not a pain at all It wasn't on the crab, just running around the shell, does that count?

Think they could be springtails maybe? Since they jump? Definitely a close up on the bugs would be helpful

Yeh, I understand your reasoning... But I always thought the opposite! I think that most pred mites that has had their pic taken to HCA was red, so I can understand your logic as well.Rawrgeous wrote:Ah. Thanks JJ.
