thats so cool! where did you get barnacles?

i just make sure i boil rocks and dont get any that arent natural for the above reasons.
I found them at joann fabrics. I was so excited and they were only 5 bucks

The vinegar thing is to ensure there aren't calcium deposits that'll leech into the water, hardening it & throwing off your chemistry. I doubt that would be a problem for land crab enclosures. :)

And to give it a good wash too... As many things don't respond well to acids/bases, it often does help.
(And I like my rocks to be inert... or close to it, so I know that nothing leeches into the surrounding environment,)
