This is my new 75g! I hooked up a small room humidifier ($20) with a hose and adapter to maintain humidity, and created 2 extra levels. My 2 adoptees snagged new shells and dove under right away! Wanna add a ladder, some more foliage, and probably about 15 or so more crabs. My pools are still drying!

Some paint trays I snagged at Walmart, with aquarium gravel and silicone glue.Just Jay wrote:MooneyFamily wrote:

Finally had all 3 up so it was time to dig up 2 from August that didn't survive their first molt and add 2 more inches of substrate. Here's the redone crabitat:

No worries on the loss- this started in July when my daughter won a crab from deplorable conditions at the state fair she attended with her grandma. Sadly I fear it was a bit too late to remedy.Just Jay wrote:Tank looks awesome so sorry about your loss. We quickly learned about crabs and how much effort they take, (but they're so worth it!), and found 4 more eccies at the pet store for companions. Again they were in a horrible state...
However we set off with those 5. Two never made their first molts, but the other 3 have molted at least twice each!
I wanted to remove the losses, and make sure the tank wasnt wet at the bottom/ no bloom. Had a bit of black mold on the bottom, but everything else was great.
Added in 2, probably 3, more inches of substrate as everyone has grown.
We'll let this settle out for a day or two and try to save a few more from the pet store. Goal is a clan of 5
Thanks for the compliments and we love all the wonderful advice/ tips on the forum!

Re: Post your crabitats!
Thanks for sharing pictures everyone! @mooneyfamily, congrats on the upgrade! Each crab should have 5 gallons. If you have 9 already, you are only left with 30 gallons. Technically some of that shouldn't be used imho, but for your crab's sake I would highly reconsider not adding 15 or so more crabs. You would be overcrowded, which leads to issues. I'm not telling you what to do, that's just my advice. Upgrading is fun!

Re: Post your crabitats!
Pretty much everything I've read said 1" of crab per gallon, I figured 2-3" per gallon. I'll likely buy 2-3 at a time, and see how it effects the tank, keep an eye on things, etc. Thanks for the advice!GotButterflies wrote:Thanks for sharing pictures everyone! @mooneyfamily, congrats on the upgrade!
