Outdoor Tat

Post by agentcrabby » Mon Dec 19, 2016 6:46 am

I live in Sunny South Florida. I built a large enclosure that is rainproof that I am considering setting up outdoors. We actually have wild hermit crabs here. I have 2 PPs and a baby wild crab currently in a small indoor tat. I have a heat lamp for the rare cool days here.

I would like your thoughts on having a tat outdoors.

Thanks

Hmm, can I find that old post of a crabber that had a crabitat outside? Can be done, but would reccomend a backup if things get a bit too cool IMO.

EDIT: Easy find! :) http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... 8&t=102257

Wow amazing! Can they stay under water for long?

So I will finish the outdoor tat after the holidays when I can monitor it More closely. And yes, I will keep the indoor one avail in case it gets cold here.

Question - will an outdoor heat lamp be a good idea?

Well, depends on crab to crab. As a general sweeping statement, most crabbers have observed their crabs "swimming" for an hour or so...

Any heat lamp will work, just ensure that it - and the wires - do not come into contact with water... (aka: rain). The crabber above put their crabitat on their screened porch, so if you have one, maybe do the same?
