Are these ok?

Post by kieagcarm » Fri Jan 06, 2017 12:55 pm

When I bought honey and peanut butter for the crabs yesterday I saw sunflower seed oil & butter, almond butter, and several other nut butters. I saw organic honeycomb too. Which cost 20 bucks. Are any of these ok? Apparently I got the wrong honey, it says 100% Natural, it's honey clover. So since I'm still waiting, coming on 4wks, for my hermies kitchen order with honey, I need to buy honey I can afford.

You can probably afford to wait for the order. Honey is great, but far from all-important nutritionally.

I bet they'd dig almond butter & sunflower seed butter. Maybe look into the brand & if the company puts out different kinds (ie. Smooth, organic, sweetend) to see how it's prepared (just roasted, contains agents to keep oils from separation, etc.). Most peanut free product websites offer a good deal of info like that.

Everyone says to offer honey after molting, I've been waiting since before my 4 crabs came up from molting. Now with Persephone on iso I can't wait for the order, since people say it's vital for after a molt.
Thanks, I'll check into the other butters. I think it would be a nice treat

Fair enough... but if the honey's not in the budget for now, it won't kill them to wait. If you don't mind the expense then get it... raw honey is delishious. But they'll be okay for now. :)

I just don't want you to feel like it's an emergency that they haven't had honey. It's good for them, yes, but if you're feeding all the other nutritious and varied things you've got them, they're getting a balanced diet with lots of protein & calcium. For now, they're likely okay.

Honeycomb is usually more expensive because beekeeper don't want to part with them. Would you like my beekeeper's info? I don't know if they ship. I get it from a local farmer market.
