I agree about the ease of crochet - I learned from the Internet in about 40 min. And I am not crafty with fiber arts at all! Give it a whirl!

65G Build for 3 Es - Back in the Game!

Post by EadvEnturEs » Fri Jan 13, 2017 3:02 pm

Update, finally!

Image

Substrate is in (better mixed than it looks up against the glass). It's a bit under the 5:1 sand:EE guideline for convenience. Probably more like 8:1. Some moss mixed into the top inch or so, I'll be doing more as time goes on. You can see the substrate level I was going for on the right (big black mark), and after a couple of months of settling, I'll top it off with some HCP sand.

The Ultratherm is turned on and heating, water bowls are both in, but I don't have IO yet, so they're both freshwater, just for me to observe for now (humidity changes, evaporation, etc.). The one at the back will be saltwater with a moss pit above it. I have two baskets I'll be working on this weekend.

I just now put the gauge in there, so ignore it. But last night with just half of the substrate and no heater, the temperature was 73*F and humidity 86%, so it should be exactly what I want in a couple of hours.

Image

The corner guards are in and curing, and I'll be hanging those baskets and doing more next weekend. For now I have to go to work. Image

Wow that's a lot of substrate, I bet it took you hours to get it all mixed up! How deep is it? It looks great so far, any luck on finding Es to live in that beautiful tank?

I worked on it all last night and this morning! It's 13". I'm wanting it to end up around 11". Thanks! Yes, I have two waiting on me that I was hoping to get, and they've been confirmed. After that, I'll adopt as they become available. (:

So happy for you. I know it took me a few hours to get a little over 9 inches in my 20g tall, mixed and moist enough to my liking(and the crabs of course) but I think getting it set up is one of the best parts lol

I've been lazy and haven't felt like posting but... it's finished! Again, being lazy and don't feel like adding much detail. I might later, but I'm happy to answer questions in the meantime! First Hermie (maybe two) is coming home tomorrow. Some other details are coming in the mail this week (bubblers, leaf litter, etc.). I made pretty much everything in there and all of the shells I own are from one bag that I laid out in this first picture (that's a quarter at the bottom). Hope y'all enjoy!

Love, love, love the setup! Especially the hanging shells. What are the dimensions of this tank? Might have already been mentioned but I overlooked it. 65 gal right?? I'm working with a 90 gal (48x18x24) and this looks so much larger.

Looks great! Where did you get your white basket for the shell shop? I love that! Very creative!

I got them both at the 99 Cent Store. I don't know if the chain is regional or not. Then I cut the front out at a slant so they'd sit the way I wanted, and wove a vine through the red one because I don't like the color, haha.
