NO, NO, NO!!! I can not stress it enough. Do NOT buy from them. They will take your money and you'll never receive your order. Yes, their website looks legit but it's a very bad company.... There's a super long forum on here with tons of other members trashing landhermitcrabs.com. (Sorry I can't post links. Type land hermit crab in HCA search bar and it should pull it up.)

You didn't sound harsh! I have heard some to. Do you know of any good, responsible reptile company's that ship and sell crabs? Like multi species and not just PP's and es?

I don't other than straws. Wish I did tho cause I really want some e's but can't find any. There are people in mideast (Texas and probably others) that can get them all day everyday or so I've heard.

I honestly don't like shipping to start with regardless of the species... Indos - largest of all land hermits (except birgus latro (their cousin) see forum regarding these). They have very large pinchers (like a claw from a crab 2-3 sizes larger tacked on), are the most terrestrial of them all meaning they are very aggressive (even to their own species mate), and they HATE getting wet. Honestly, I wouldn't put these with other species. I would keep them by themselves. However, some crabbers have been known to keep their with other species with no known problems.

I also do not think shipping is humane. I would also highly recommend waiting on the other species until you have been crabbing for awhile and can meet all of their needs. Most of the exotics are very delicate, and since they are taken out of the wild, it would be a shame for them to go to a home not prepared for them (I'm not saying you aren't - I don't know).

IDK who told you this, but I consider this to be completely wrong. For the many that have kept Indo's, they are regarded as gentle giants and have a similar/better personally to PP's. I don't really think that PP's are aggressive. Even though they have a large BP, many Ido owners regard that they not really used for much and more of a hindrance rather than anything. Even though they are regarded as terrestrial - most crabs are, except straws... They a bit more aquatic in comparison to other species available - they have a similar view of water that PP's do. They will drink, but won't actively bathe. And no, they can be kept in groups or even in a mixed species tank, without problems. All land hermit crabs - birgus latro isn't really regarded as a land hermit crab - do well and encouraged to have species buddies. Aggression in a crabitat is usually due to the owners fault, such as lack of space, shells, food available, water ect...

And just to sum it up, all crabs are from the wild. The thing that makes exotics delicate is due to their price tag and the fact that they are shipped halfway across the world to even get to your country, let alone city/town/doorstep. Once they are settled in, many of the exotic owners report in having and observing little differences in care, except that they prefer higher temps to PP's (or PP's and withstand lower temps for a prolonged period)... Of course, straws aren't included in this. They a bit tricky from the get go....

When I first started crabbing, I used hermit-crabs.com as a go to site for species and other references (which was long before I stumbled upon HCA). This site is where my info actually came from.

Just to throw my quick 2 cents in...wait to order crabs until it is warmer. This time of year anything can happen, and if their heatpacks quit working before they get to you they will likely arrive dead. Even if it isn't cold where you live, the box will likely travel through regions that are below freezing right now. Also, as far as I know most places won't guarantee live arrival this time of year.
