Tuesday 31st January 2017

 Looks like I'm a mum again.

0730 found Fudge up on the top of the salt pool. But she took off when I approached and took a photo. THEN at about 0830 I discovered what looked like eggs on the sphagnum moss. I’d had 2 big shells in there filled with water (FRESH I thought) hoping to get them to change shells. BUT looks like Fudge deposited the eggs in there and it tipped over and put them on the moss.
With my fingers and a spoon I transferred any eggs I could see into a small container of salt water. Then I fished out the moss that was around it and washed it in the salt. Heaps of zoea were alive and kicking. Left them with an airstone on the washing machine (laundry is warm) and today will be a warm day.
Got home about 1400 and yep they were still alive and flicking. SO I poured that into a glass bowl and used an eyedropper to suck out as many zoea and as little moss as I could. Quite a few still viable and none dead that I could see.
They are now in a jar in the esky bath. The water is about 30 in the jar and I put warm water into the bath so the heater wouldn’t need to take as long to heat up.

2100. There are still many zoea alive and flicking their tails madly.
I spent time this afternoon mixing 60kg of sand and the relevant amount of coir peat. I have filled my 4ft tank about half way up to the line I drew on it to allow for sub when I put the heat cord on the other day. Now about to silicone handles onto my newly cut lids for this tank. Looks like I will be needing to move the adults a little sooner than planned.

Tuesday 31st January 2017 Juvenile Crab update 8weeks 2 days

Last night I spent 20mins watching one crab check out a big shell very very carefully. BUT then it went away. However, there are now 3 who have done shell changes into larger shells (NO 3 size) and most of the others are checking out shells that when I first put them in seemed to be so big they wouldn't be any good for months. I still have 10 as far as I know.
The other night I put in a single baby prawn from my chinese fried rice. Literally 2 seconds after it hit the food shell one crab was on top of it. I hadn't even closed the tat lid. In a couple of minutes there were a total of 3 on the prawn. It is still there tonight but I think it will have to come out as it is starting to smell. I will put it in the adult tank and I am sure it will vanish in seconds.

Babies tank or adults tank? OR the kriesel set up? If you have a look back through this thread you will probably find all three.
