New PPs - Is this a new shell emergency?

Post by crabbyNJ » Sat Feb 18, 2017 11:45 am

Hi
Three new PPs.

Three questions:
Should I be getting new shells ASAP for this guy? (all three are hanging out when fully retracted)
Do you know what kind of shell this is?
Is this considered a medium sized shell?

Thanks!!!

That is a magpie shell

Edit: I forgot to answer your other questions, sorry!

You want to measure the inside of the shell, not the entire shell.
It's not an emergency, but you can definitely get him new shells ;)

PP's wear magpies in the wild, as this is one of the shells that is most readily available to them.

You may want to look for mexican turbos and tapestry turbos in incrementally larger sizes. These seem to be favored overall by PP's.

Thanks for that reply.

I've been doing a bit of research into locations where the magpie shell comes from. I know it's becoming scarce and in some places it's illegal to collect.

so, I guess this suggests my new PPs may have been fairly recently taken.

I ordered some magpies from etsy, but I know it's a heavy shell and requires more energy to drag around so I intend to get some turbos too. So far I haven't been able to locate a reasonably priced source who has the right size.
