So I had a few thoughts for you. First, when you are choosing your tank size and substrate depth, make sure you take into account the sizes of the crabs you plan to purchase. For instance, for medium/small crabs a minimum of 5 gallons tank space per crab is recommended. So a 20 gallon tank would hold 4 crabs without them being overcrowded. There is a crab size chart and description of how to measure them as a link on one of the care sheets I think, also a link to how to select tank size/ number of crabs per tank. Minimum substrate depth of 3 times the height of your largest crab or 6", whichever is greater. If you purchase a jumbo crab (softball sized) straight off, the recommendations are different. I've never had a jumbo crab, but from what I recall, there's a minimum of 15 gallons per crab recommended, and a minimum tank size of either 55 or 75 gallons (don't recall exactly). They need a wider tank, not just longer. And more space to move around. Just thought I'd mention it since I came across a number of jumbos in my search for little ones.
You asked about food. Minuscule amounts is the correct term. I have 1 small and two medium/small crabs, and I think a whole chicken breast would last 6 months? A year? Space in the freezer is helpful. Portion size is 1/8 -1/16 of a teaspoon per three crabs, near as I can tell. Course I'm also feeding 3-5 items every day, so they have a selection for proper nutrition.
Also, make sure you get organic chicken with no salt, broth solution added, etc. It can be really hard to find straight all natural organic chicken with no salt added.
