Hermit Crab Safe Paint?

Post by DreaminginBlue » Sun Mar 26, 2017 11:23 pm

I am hoping to work on decorating my crabitat and was wondering if there is any hermit safe paint out there? I'd want to paint some plastic shower caddies I will use to make different levels so they don't look so ugly and unnatural.
I also considered using hermit safe glue to glue on some fake leaves, or maybe some other fibrous material (coconut fiber? Hay? Grass mat?) to cover them.
If anyone has any other ideas, please let me know.
Thanks!

I wouldn't paint anything in their tank. They would pick it off, or the heat plus humidity would cause it to peel.

There are clear shower caddies which are great for crab tanks.

You can use hot glue but it won't last long in the tank.

You can use aquarium safe silicone but all projects have to be done outside the tank and cannot go in until you can't smell the fumes any more.

Hay and grass mat will mold. Some people have had success with gluing moss to objects.

There's a crabber (SugarSelections I think?) that zipped tied plastic fake grass mats to their caddies to make them look nicer. Something like this.

Edit to add: Hope this link works. Pinterest doesn't like to work on my phone without the app.

I found those pics on pinterest couple years ago and did this with the 55G (which I no longer have). I took them off when I upgraded. Really need to add them again. Loved the natural look!

It looks great and I bet the crabs love climbing it! Do you get these at craft stores or pet stores?

Grass from petsmart in fish section. I think it's called betta grass. Moss in reptile section of petsmart (terrarium moss - has frog on box). And corner caddy from Wal-Mart's bath section.

Michaels has a large piece similar to that- I have it as a background piece in my 100g.
