Building a Crabby Paradise

Post by Visual » Mon May 15, 2017 10:39 pm

Please send all the good vibes and prayers that you can... I had slowly been taking everything out of the old crabitat and was left with only one water source and one food dish. It's been over a week and I hadn't seen any activity. I had already counted the crabs as we placed them in the new Crab River Gorge. By our estimates we were missing 3 or 4 crabs. So I smoothed over the sand and waited a few more days. Today I noticed a new hole had popped up. With the conditions not being ideal in the old tat and a surfacing crab I set out to hunt him down. I slowly sifted through the sand and recovered all our old buried shells, two loners and sadly one recently molted shell less crab. I immediately rinsed him and placed him in a new clean larger shell and got to work on a safe spot in the Gorge. He's in there with a few more shells, clean water, pb and honey and seeds and all of his expo I could find. I put him in a small hermit hut to make it darker then fenced him off from the rest of the crew. Please keep this little guy in your thoughts, I hope I haven't lost him, or caused his imminent death. Since the new tat is holding temps and humidity better I hope he'll recover from my screw up.

Remember to ISO! You don't want the other crabs getting at him.

He's fenced off from the others in there but would they tunnel under to get him? I don't currently have another tank ready with good conditions.

You could use the soda bottle trick, or put him in a small Tupperware like container, I have deli cups around for this purpose. You could even use a kritter keeper. If the other crabs want to get to him they will. Im sending good vibes your way!

Thank you all so much. So far ok I think. He hasn't moved that I know of but I do see the shell wiggle every now and then.

Your crabitat is way better than mine. Let them trash it then fix it up every few months. You worked so hard don't give up.

No movement, and he hasn't dug back down. When should I check on him?

Guys!! He's moved. Looked this morning, it's not much, but he has turned around inside the hermit hut.
