Silicone doesn't bond well to plastics... I'd stick with zip ties

My pools are still good to go and are not leaking yet! =D and zip ties wouldn't have helped me much in this case

Re: I made a water thing
It's the oils in the plastic. (It is made from petroleum after all.) Eventually these oils will eat away at the silicon and loosen the bond. It's not usually a super quick process, but the problem is there's no way of knowing when it will fail. What you designed is not a danger to the crabs so I personally don't think it matters that much - just be prepared to have to replace it at some point in the future, and know that new silicon won't stick to dried silicon so patching is out. The major 'send the sirens wailing' problem is when someone uses plexi for built-in pools - those fail catastrophically and end up flooding the entire tank so they are not recommended. It usually takes 6 months to a couple of years before they blow though so people get confident that nothing bad will happen and then overnight they have a tankful of dead molters. :/

The reason I used the plastic canvas to glue the rocks too is so I could pick them up easily and put them in a better looking glass container eventually. I have the water levels staggered so I can tell when it equalizes. Additionally the rocks are also glued to themselves so at this point if I were to cut/tear away the canvas from the rocks they would still hold their shape =D

I have been able to snap some pics of them figuring out the pools. So far only the Es have done any major exploring.

Re: I made a water thing
When i got them they were in matching shells, and then they switched into matching shells, they have to be related. But it can be a problem because unless i have them right next to each other to see their size and temperament I can't tell who is who anymore lol in the what are you crabs up to thread i posted a picture where they fell asleep next to each other in a yin yang, it was perfect

Re: I made a water thing
rather well due to rocks being porous... as long as it is aquarium safe silicone....

Re: I made a water thing
Totally safe silicone. And i have never had a problem with rocks and silicone and salt water =)
Re: I made a water thing
Why don't people just have a glass bowl or something like that for the "built in" pools? No seams to worry about, if it's pyrex it's rather sturdy, and you can just bury it most of the way for the in-ground effect. Is there something wrong with that method?
Anyway, the pictured pools look gorgeous. Loving the little plants for climbing out

Re: I made a water thing
As a glass bowl isnt a built in. Built in basically mean that they are... built in. many have used glass bowls for cook ware and report that it works well, i just never tried it
