Pole sitting crab

Post by Wlfwo » Mon Jul 31, 2017 5:41 pm

Ok, I've been assured it'll climb down OK on its own, my question is, is it going to panic and fall when I open up here in a bit to change out food? Should I wait and see if he climbs down first? He's new, but the others are getting used to being fed by 8.
I can hear my 75g whispering from the barn.

aww, you sound like me when i was new. he'll come down when he wants. and if he falls he'll be ok too. those little legs are pretty strong, his grip is good. more likely than not he'll be gone by the time you come w food. he may watch you too. i would not try to pry him off.( i am a hands off crabber.) just go about your business, see what happens. as long as he cant escape, you're fine. good luck and happy crabbin!

I'm happy to note, he just sat there, scooted a bit, when I put in new food and minerals. Looks like he's considering leaving the pole for the night. LOL

Doubt it! They usually dig to do that.. Sounds to me he's taking in his new surroundings. Or he could be sleeping.

May be his/her new place to "hang" out Mine chill all over the tank. Some on the Mopani wood, some on the fish net...etc

hi again, my crabs find a spot, and stake it out. usually a high spot. territory, no doubt. John C. Crab is my Tank Boss. he picks the prime spots and will knock ANYBODY else on their shell if they dare go in his spot. Now that I went from from a 10g to a 40g John STILL picks a spot and makes the other two walk OVER or around him. Its all about territory.

Mine are still sorting out, but it looks like the last one is going to be top crab. As far as I can tell it's a girl. The other 2 seem to be male.

One of my crabs, Guido Adler, did something similar a couple of days ago. He was scaling the Tiki Hut. I still have no clue how he got up as far as he did! An hour or so later, his tank mate Bob was walking across the top of the climbing net. Little weirdos.
