Is this safe?

Post by Tom2433360 » Sun Jul 30, 2017 7:09 pm

So, a family member bought me a hermit crab climbing branch for my hermit crabs. I don't think it's safe, because when I scratched it with my fingernail some chips of paint came off. It also looks pretty sketchy because the "basic hermit crab care" on the back isn't even the bare minimum for hermit crab care. It's also labeled as a hermit crab product, and I've never bought anything that's labeled as a hermit crab product. I have no problem setting it aside for right now if it's not safe for them. Thanks! -TomImageImage

I personally don't like them. It's a plastic cholla log. You can buy a real one for $3.99 at Hobby Lobby and then use a 40% coupon :)
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

I personally wouldn't use it just because of the paint chipping. When I tried to clean mine when I had one almost all of the paint came off.

I've had a blue one in my tank for about a year, with no problems

Is this dyed cholla or the fake one made of polyresin (like aquarium decor - which is generally considered safe)? I used to have a red polyresin one that I used for a while in the water dish. Color never ran or chipped, no issues. Eventually I chucked it just because I didn't care for the look. If it's dyed cholla I would skip it.
