Suction cup alternatives

Post by Brian_T » Tue Aug 01, 2017 7:46 pm

Hello,

I'm getting tired of constantly putting the suction cups back after my crabs pull them down.

What else you using to hold up netting and other things?

Thanks

Would those command strips work? I have the smaller ones, was going to try those when I get around to putting the net somewhere.

I am using OUTDOOR command hooks that can stand the higher humidity and heat. I think mine are working well because I applied them when it was completely dry. Be sure to follow instructions on the box.

Zip ties are my favorite.... I've also used command strips and power lock suction cups in the past with no problems.

I have used the ones for hanging up lights outside, still up, been there almost a year. Use one on my windshield to hang my beaded spider, it lasted almost 10 years before he fell off and I had to replace it.

I use the suction cups that lock on to form a tight hold. My crabs can't pulls them off ( this may be because they're not really big crabs) but I do notice they occasionally slide down if condensation forms on the glass. I also use hooks with a sticky foam backing that I get in like a pack of 10 for $1. They hold up well and are not hard to remove if u change up your decor. Just be sure the glass is clean and dry before u apply them.

I've had some luck with the larger locking suction cups, but the little ones are poop. And now I've been using them for about eight months, even the big ones seem less effective. I have to put them back up more & more often. There is a good deal of condensation in the tank as we've had a cool summer and my tank is warmer than the room.

Wouldn't ya know it...I had to put back up 3 of the 4 suction cups on my back wall that holds up my second level today...yay me :| guess I forgot to "knock on wood" when I said they Hold tight  I had to steal one out of the shower as a replacement cause the silicon cup part look warped and wouldn't hold well on one of them anymore and I misplaced those sticky hooks I said I had a bunch of from the dollar store... Ahhh the trials and tribulations of the "crab life" boy I tell you what... :P

I don't know if this is related, but just this week I made my second level by taping an upside down pet igloo to the tank wall with a piece of cholla wood going up. Cheap and easy!
