Cover for hole in lid

Post by Bean2011 » Thu Aug 03, 2017 2:36 am

Hey guys I'm currently using an aquarium hood that has a hole from where the filter used to be. Any suggestions on how to cover it up!?

You could use Saran Wrap, or if you want it permanently sealed depending on how big the hole is you could seal it with silicon?

If you use silicone make sure it's completely cured before using it on the tank.... Packaging tape or duct tape (sticky side out) would probably be a better option. Take lid off, turn it upside down, and tape it up. I've done many tank lids like this. Seran wrap tends to move around a bit IMO.

Duct tape both sides so there is no sticky? Of course this might only work temporarily-

I've had to seal up used lids a few times. I prefer using a small piece of Plexi glass thats been cut to size (can use thin stuff that can be cut using a Plexi tool) and using packing tape to hold it in place. It's solid so it can't be broken through yet can be removed in case the lid needs to be used for other purposes. The tape is waterproof.

Thanks everyone! For now I think I'm gonna go with the duct tape solution! I didn't even think of that! Once I get around to it I'll probably switch to the plexi-glass!
