Redecorated the 55 a bit: new second level
In case you didn't see my tank before, here's before pics: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... 8#p1039838
I noticed a few things in my tank: 1, they didn't really use the salad strainer, I think it was too spacious to be a good hide. 2, it look up a lot of room 3, I had four water dishes in there, so I wanted to do down to two by making my pools more accessible. 4, I wanted to seperate the smaller shells from the bigger shells and make the shells generally more accessible (36 shells in one basket was no fun) 5, I wanted to reinstate the crab wheel (I took it out previously) and 6, with now 6 crabs I wanted to have a second level for more personal space per crab while still giving lots of access to substrate.
While I was at it, I spot cleaned the substrate (found some of their hidden foods) and added a little bit more sand. I have approx 50 lbs of sand/coco mix from the HCP that I got via my latest adoption. Since 4/6 crabs are under, I definitely wanted to add it slowly. It will be good to add sand. I want to get another inch or two in my tank over time.
I built the second level using a flat basket from the Dollar Tree. I cut it in half vertically and cut out room for the hamster wheel and made room for the entrance. I drilled some sand escape holes in the bottom. I also drilled some home to zip tie craft mesh to the floor (the surface was very slippery). I then propped it up by attaching four 6" cholla pieces to the corners. It's not the most sturdy thing in the world, but it's not going anywhere.
Also, since changing up the shell shop, my little Lassie already changed shells and stayed in it all night long! Whoohoo!

They are fake. None of the plants in my tank are real.Undercrablife wrote:Can the fly traps kill

That glass ball is a fun idea, kind of like the hanging coconut hut.

Thank you! I think the water changes were for the better. I caught Lassie drinking for the first time! I'm going to add some more hides by that end of the tank so they can spread out more, if they wish.
