Silicon vs. Hot Glue Gun in water

Post by CharlesMTF » Mon Nov 06, 2017 8:59 pm

I had siliconed a bunch of little rocks in a water bowl to make sure the crabs can come out, but after months of use, it seems that the silicon is no longer adhesive. Rocks coming right off. Would a hot glue gun work better for the purpose? Does it stick to plastic better?

I tried hot glue in my tank and the humidity alone made it fall apart within a couple weeks. :(

Ditto here with the hot glue gun. It will last for a short period of time then just start falling apart.

If u could find glass containers to glue the rocks to it think the scilicone may hold up longer. I don't personally have experience with this but I have read several posts that say silicone sticks to glass much better and not so good with plastic or plexi.

It has been my experience that silicone sticks to glass better than plexi, but it does have trouble with both. If you can, another option might be to use an exacto to score the plastic or Plexi surface, so that it is not entirely smooth. This would allow the silicone to grip a little bit better and last a little bit longer.
